How Rocket Learned to Read by Tad Hills

How Rocket Learned to ReadHow Rocket Learned to Read by Tad Hills just hit the shelves July 2010, but Anna and I recently found a copy in our local library.  We both loved it!  Rocket the dog is enticed into learning to read and once he gets started he doesn't want to stop.  A great book for children that are just starting to learn to read and spell.

I love the book because it illustrates my philosophy for teaching children to read - by immersing them in books.

I discovered a very cute YouTube video about How Rocket Learned to Read.  Children talk about the book and portions of the book are read and displayed.

I found a neat interview Tad Hills on the Amazing Kids Magazine site.   The interview is done by a couple of children and they are talking to him specifically about this book.

Tad Hills has a website that is worth checking out. You will find a display of the covers of a number of his other books in the books section of his website.  We have read a enjoyed a couple of them already and will be looking for others.  You may find some of them featured here in the future.  In the About section of his website be sure to click on the arrows so as to not miss any of it. One quote that I love from that section is as follows:  "I find the process of creating a book similar to making sculpture.  It is a constant adding and taking-away.  The words and pictures are like pieces of clay."

We'd love to hear your thoughts about How Rocket Learned to Read.
