The Little Rooster And The Diamond Button, written by Celia Barker Lottridge and illustrated by Joanne Fitzgerald, is a cute story about a rooster that finds a diamond button, but a rich sultan steals the button from the rooster. The rooster, however, does not give up easily and ends up greatly outwitting the sultan. The story is actually a retelling of a Hungarian folktale. The author has included a repeated phrase that adds to the fun of reading this book together.
The illustrator has also added much to the appeal of this book. Each page has a beautiful border and placed within each border are small pictures from the illustration which it borders, making it fun to try to find the smaller pictures in the bigger picture. On top of that there is also a little green lizard hidden on each page.
Anna and I both enjoyed the story in this book and we were enthralled by the beautiful borders and the hidden pictures. We spent a lot of time pouring over The Little Rooster And The Diamond Button.
